The concept of sterilising foodstuffs is dear to the heart of our current owner, Katharina Hahn, since it was one of her forefathers, Georg Carl Hahn who in 1848 founded a company to produce preserved food as provisions for ships on extended journeys from the Hanseatic port of Lübeck. The former factory on Aegidienstrasse 22 in Lübeck is still owned by Katharina Hahn but it is now the European Technical and Development centre of KaTech Katharina Hahn + Partner.
Nowadays, with the introduction of new forms of barrier packaging, sterilised sauces with a low particulate content tend to be manufactured using plate heat exchangers and ultra high temperatures (UHT).
